I am part of a group of people who are committed to helping those who need help!”

I am assisting IBC with various translation and proofreading tasks. Offering my translation services as a linguist at IBC means a lot to me. I am part of a group of people who are committed to helping those who need help and ensuring that our work provides information to those who ultimately benefit from it – be it people who are currently suffering from addiction or those who help others overcome it. Blue Cross in my opinion, fulfils one of the most important goals of our time-   helping people to stabilize their own lives and to live without addictive substances. I am very happy to be part of it.

“My volunteer experience has been enriching professionally and personally!”

I joined IBC through an employment program, and although I have a permanent job position, I continue my engagement. Having an academic background in international cooperation and marketing, my volunteer placement has been a perfect opportunity to gain practical skills and enter the world of NGOs, which has since been fascinating for me. Thanks to the team’s support, my volunteer experience has been enriching professionally and personally.

“I firmly believe that we can all contribute to build a healthier future by helping others.”

Aware of the damage that alcohol- and other drug consumption can cause in people’s lives, it has been extremely rewarding to work for IBC as a volunteer as interpreter and translator since 2020. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to use my skills to promote programmes and policies to protect people from alcohol- and other drug harm. I firmly believe that we can all contribute to build a healthier future by helping others. Especially satisfying has been for me to interpret remote trainings and meetings during the pandemic, helping IBC to continue its work in difficult times.

“I developed a sincere and trusting relationship, feeling that we can move forward together!”

With a background in international cooperation and work experience with the Red Cross, I was excited to change the color of the “Cross” and discover a new organisation. As an IBC volunteer I have been accompanying a self-help project in Burkina Faso for over a year. During that time, the team of the Blue Cross Burkina Faso and I developed a sincere and trusting relationship, feeling that we can move forward together. My placement with IBC has helped me to integrate into the Swiss labour market – I have now found a job in the non-profit sector!

“If you want to go fast, of alone. If you want to go far, go together!”

I am a helpful person, so it was natural for me to respond to IBC´s call for volunteers. I like that as a volunteer I can contribute to giving a hand to those in need. It’s been almost a year now that I am a member of the IBC volunteer team and I will be happy to keep on contributing. As a double bachelors’ holder in linguistics I am working as a conference interpreter and translator since 2008 to-date. As a volunteer for IBC as an international and therewith multi-language organisation, I can use my professional experience to do good. I have reviewed and translated documents such as the Theory of Change for the Life Skills programme and material for the good governance training IBC staff organises for its members worldwide.

My involvement with IBC brings me self-satisfaction and I believe I help IBC to promote its programmes and assist people with addiction problems.

“I wanted to work for an organisation that makes the world a better place.”

My motivation for becoming a volunteer at IBC is simple: I want to work for an organisation that makes the world a better place. And I felt that IBC gives me a possibility to do so. In advocating for better alcohol and drug rehabilitation and prevention, one feels the common vision the members of the Blue Cross family share: A world in which every person receives help and support without being stigmatised.

As a volunteer, it is my main task to assist the Finance Officer in the daily work load. I help reconciling bank accounts and expenses and support payment allocation and invoicing. This is where I feel I can use my skills best. Usually I came to the office in Bern once per week and I feel it is an ideal opportunity for me to get an insight into a different field of work and learn new things. The staff and the other volunteers are friendly and I always enjoy coming to the office – all in all an enriching experience!
