“I developed an understanding of the crippling effects especially alcohol has in poorer countries.”

I started supporting the IBC team in 2017 with translations, proofreading and drafting funding applications. In the following time I developed an understanding of the crippling effects especially alcohol has in poorer countries – an interesting topic I hardly ever thought of before! IBC’s profile as an international organisation with several projects on different continents managed by a dynamic team of different nationalities was a decisive factor for my decision to join the organisation as a volunteer. I discovered a kind and generous team always appreciative of the support of their volunteers.

The projects implemented at IBC serve humanity across the globe !

For many years now, volunteering in humanitarian organisations has been integral part of my life. I believe that we must help each other so that we can find someone to help us if we need it some day. At IBC I found fellow volunteers and staff working together in this spirit. I am proud to be part of the Blue Cross team. The projects implemented at IBC serve humanity across the globe !

“At IBC I could use my skills and I quicky felt like an integral part of its great team.”

Moving to a new country is always a challenge. It can be difficult to find new friends and find a balance between working and exploring a new culture. Volunteering at IBC was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the work culture in Switzerland. As a journalism graduate communication is my thing! At IBC I could use my skills and I quicky felt like an integral part of its great team. During my volunteer service I was free to choose work fields and tasks, which interested me the most.

I gained a great insight into the work of IBC as an umbrella organisation!”

I am volunteering for IBC from my home. I support the IBC General Secretary in meetings with different national Blue Cross member organisations, mainly from Africa. Mostly I attended meetings with Blue Cross colleagues from Madagascar, translating between English and French. Like this I gained a great insight into the work of IBC as an umbrella organisation and the internal structures and work fields of its members outside Switzerland.

IBC and its amazing team welcomed me with open arms!

After moving to Switzerland, I felt a little lost and alone in a new country. IBC and its amazing team welcomed me with open arms! It was my first experience with the Swiss working culture, and I quickly felt comfortable and appreciated. The team is doing a wonderful job, and getting to know IBC and its mission was very motivating.I am looking forward to volunteering with IBC again.

I am happy to reignite my creative writing flair by traveling (at least in mind) to countries all over the world!”

With a degree in Applied Linguistics and Cultural Anthropology, I have spent most of my professional life in the field of language training. Therefore, I am happy to reignite my creative writing flair by travelling (at least in mind) to countries all over the world and improving people’s lives. Since 2019, I have been working as a voluntary translator and proofreader for IBC. At IBC, I really appreciate the human and respectful attitude, the ever-interesting topics and this sense of being part of a highly committed team standing up for a world with increased solidarity.
